BEXLEY THEATRE ARTS
Bexley City Schools Theatre Program
rough 5. The purpose of YouTheatre is to learn, explore, and develop theatre fundamentals such as reading, movement, character analysis, voice, and group work through creative and fun learning atmospheres. High School and Middle School students play a big role in YouTheatre activites, and they can help mentor younger students.
There are two YouTheatre events during each season: the YouTheatre play, and YouTheatre Drama Camps.YouTheatre Play
The YouTheatre Play is the most serious theatre experience for Bexley Elementary school students. Students must memorize lines, be able to work well with their peers, take directions, maintain a positive, mature attitude during long rehearsals--especially when they aren't on stage, and they still have to act their parts. But the experience is fun and rewarding, even though it is a big time committment.
This year, the YouTheatre play is The Adventures of Peter Rabbit and All His Friends. This fun, imaginative play follows the lives of Peter Rabbit creator, Beatrix Potter, and her friends, as well as enacting several of Potter's most famous works, including the well known Peter Rabbit.
Auditions for the YouTheatre play are held in the Cassingham Theatre. In order to audition, students should memorize a short poem. Students should try to use movement and voice in order to bring their poems to life.
YouTheatre Drama Camps
The YouTheatre Drama Camps is the less serious option for students who are just starting to explore theatre or want to become more involved in the creative process. High School students help lead different groups in developing skits, playing games, creating characters and scenerios, and exploring the world through voice and movement.
At the end of the five day camp, there is a showcase where parents can some and see short skits the students have created.
This year, the drama camps are divided into two different sessions. Session 1 is for students in grades 1 and 2, and session 2 is for students in grades 3, 4, and 5. Both sessions meet in the Cassingham Complex, and camps are held in the Studio Theatre.
